In the summer of 2017, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Ahmed Rah, a 27-year-old Black male, was in the California neighborhood on August 12th when he was shot in the head. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning, leaving a family and community in mourning. Rah was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition, but his injuries proved to be insurmountable. He was pronounced dead at 10:30 a.m.
that same day, the cause of death officially ruled as a gunshot wound.
At the scene of the shooting, Louisville Metro Police apprehended a suspect, 22-year-old Mykeya Pruitt. According to police reports, Pruitt was not only identified by witnesses as the shooter but also admitted to the act herself. As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that she had attempted to conceal her involvement by removing bloody clothing. The severity of Ahmed Rah's injuries initially led to charges of attempted murder against Pruitt.
Following Rah's passing, the charges against Mykeya Pruitt were upgraded to murder. In addition to the murder charge, she also faced a charge of tampering with physical evidence. The case then moved into the hands of the Louisville Metro Police Department's homicide unit for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the untimely death of Ahmed Rah. His family described him as a kind and loving person with a big heart, left devastated by the sudden and violent loss.
