In the early morning hours of a Friday in May, the quiet of a Fern Creek neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a call around 1 a.m., Louisville Metro Police officers arrived at the 9100 block of Beulah Church Road to a grim scene. There, they found 38-year-old Nicholas Warren Feather suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported Feather to the University of Louisville Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too
severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, leaving behind a grieving family and a community searching for answers. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity. Homicide detectives with the Louisville Metro Police Department immediately began an investigation into the fatal shooting, working to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of life.
Weeks later, on August 31, 2023, an arrest was made in connection with Feather's death. Law enforcement took 38-year-old Jason Ashby into custody. Ashby was subsequently charged with murder for his alleged role in the shooting. The following day, he appeared in court and entered a plea of not guilty. A judge set his bond at $50,000 cash as the legal proceedings against him commenced. Court records later revealed that Feather had been shot three times in the chest.
