In the summer of 2017, the life of Kelly Cocagne, a 35-year-old mother of two from Covington, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of August 14th, police and emergency services were called to her home on Holman Street, where they found she had sustained a single gunshot wound to her torso. Cocagne was quickly transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, but she ultimately succumbed to her injury.
The Covington Police Department launched an immediate
investigation into the shooting. After interviewing everyone involved, authorities determined that the shooting was accidental in nature. They concluded their public statements by indicating that they did not anticipate filing any charges, and due to the age of the other individuals involved and the sensitive circumstances surrounding the incident, their names would not be made public. No arrests were made in connection with her death.
Kelly Cocagne was remembered by her loved ones as a person with a tremendous heart for those in need. Although she held a real estate license, she dedicated much of her life to working with people with disabilities. At the time of her passing, she was about to embark on a new chapter in her life as a teacher for children with special needs at Newport Intermediate School. The Newport Independent Schools superintendent mourned her passing as a 'senseless tragedy,' remembering her as a 'bright and inspiring young woman' and a 'dedicated professional.'
