In the summer of 2017, the life of 8-year-old Aariden Trent Hooper was tragically cut short in a devastating event that shook his Louisville, Kentucky community. Aariden, a White male, was a student at Gilmore Lane Elementary School, known for his love of sports and his remarkable speed. His father, Jason Hooper, fondly remembered him as a 'jokester' who loved to dance and run, a boy who wanted to 'be a kid forever.'
He and his older brother, 10-year-old Avery, were inseparable, often seen playing together.
On the evening of August 25, 2017, Louisville Metro Police responded to a call of multiple people shot at a residence on Bluebird Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a heart-wrenching scene. Aariden, his brother Avery, and their 36-year-old mother, Ashley Hooper, were all found deceased inside the home. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that both boys had died from single gunshot wounds.
The investigation by the LMPD Homicide Unit concluded that the incident was a double murder-suicide. Authorities determined that Ashley Hooper was the sole perpetrator, having fatally shot her two sons before turning the gun on herself.
