In the winter of 2018, the life of 39-year-old Geneva Gayle Miles was tragically cut short in a violent act that also claimed the lives of her brother and sister-in-law. On January 12th, police discovered the bodies of Geneva, her brother Mike Miles, and his wife Catherine Miles inside a home in Louisville, Kentucky. All three had been shot to death in what was determined to be a triple homicide.
At the time of the discovery, two young children belonging to Mike and Catherine were found unharmed in another room of the house.
The investigation quickly focused on Christopher Olivo, Geneva's longtime boyfriend and the father of her young daughter. The couple, along with their child, had recently moved from Florida to Louisville to live with Mike and Catherine. Tensions in the household had reportedly escalated, with Olivo having made threats to 'kill everyone in the house' prior to the murders. Following the discovery of the bodies, authorities realized that Olivo and his and Geneva's daughter were missing.
A multi-state effort to locate Olivo ensued. Using the OnStar GPS technology in his vehicle, law enforcement tracked him to Florida. He was arrested the day after the victims were found. When apprehended, Olivo was wearing a ballistic vest. His and Geneva's daughter was found safe with his relatives in Florida. Olivo was extradited back to Louisville to face charges for the murders.
Christopher Olivo was charged with three counts of murder, as well as kidnapping and child abuse. In the ensuing legal proceedings, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and his bond was set at one million dollars. Prosecutors have considered the death penalty in this case. A trial date for Olivo was set for the fall of 2024. The tragic event left a family shattered and a community in mourning for the three lives lost.
