In the late hours of March 5, 2018, the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night's quiet at the Park Place Apartments on Cogan Boulevard in Louisville, Kentucky. When the chaos subsided, 18-year-old Prince Zreeyah, a Black male, was found suffering from several gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another young man, a 16-year-old, was also struck by the gunfire, hit in the abdomen and leg.
He managed to flee the immediate scene, desperately knocking on a nearby door for help before being rushed to University Hospital. He was expected to survive his injuries. Initially, police were uncertain of the second teen's role but later confirmed he was also a victim and not a suspect in the shooting. This crucial detail indicated that the two teenagers were not shooting at each other, leaving investigators to search for an unknown shooter or shooters.
Witnesses reported seeing a car speeding away from the apartment complex moments after the gunshots rang out. The Louisville Metro Police Department launched a homicide investigation, canvassing the area and urging the public to come forward with any information. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, however, no arrests were made, and police had not publicly identified any suspects. The motive for the tragic shooting remained unclear as a community was left to mourn the violent end of a young life.
