In the early evening of a June day in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 19-year-old Abdifatah Hussein was tragically cut short. On June 7, 2018, around 5 p.m., police were called to the 5400 block of Mitscher Avenue in the Iroquois neighborhood. There, behind a building near South Third Street, they discovered the body of the young male. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
This act of violence marked the 39th homicide in metro Louisville for that year.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department began their investigation. While two men were taken into custody at the scene, authorities quickly determined they were not connected to the fatal shooting of Hussein. The search for the person responsible continued as detectives began to piece together the events of that afternoon by speaking with several witnesses. The information gathered from these interviews soon pointed them toward a single individual.
Less than two weeks after Abdifatah Hussein's death, an arrest was made. Louisville Metro Police charged 21-year-old Joshua Price with murder in connection with the shooting. Price was taken into custody and arraigned in court, where a judge set his bond at $100,000 and ordered that he not possess any firearms. The arrest brought a measure of progress to a case that had started with no immediate suspects, offering a potential path toward justice for the teenage victim whose life was violently ended in broad daylight.
