In the late summer of 2018, a wave of sorrow swept through a Louisville, Kentucky community following the tragic death of two-year-old Montreal Dunn. The young male child's life was abruptly cut short on August 16, 2018, from a gunshot wound to the head. The incident took place in a home on the 1700 block of South 32nd Street. Emergency crews, upon their arrival on the morning of August 15th, recognized the severity of the situation and rushed the toddler to Norton Children's Hospital in a
police car to save time. Despite their efforts, Montreal succumbed to his injuries the following evening.
The Louisville Metro Police Department investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting and quickly determined it to be a tragic accident. According to their findings, the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. The family of the young boy described him as a 'bundle of joy' and explained that the firearm was in the home for protection. Montreal’s uncle stated that the boy's father was on his way to work and had forgotten the gun, which the curious toddler then found.
