On a Saturday afternoon in Russell Springs, Kentucky, 35-year-old Brandy Renee Johnson was on her lunch break from her job as a waitress at Coe's Steakhouse. It was October 27, 2018, when she went out to her vehicle in the restaurant's parking lot. In an abrupt act of violence, a man approached her and fired a gun multiple times, striking her at point-blank range.
Johnson was rushed to the Russell County Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The shooter, identified as 42-year-old Jason Clark of Jamestown, fled the scene immediately after the incident. Law enforcement located him in his car about an hour later, several miles south of Jamestown on Highway 127. Kentucky State Police conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody. Clark later confessed to the killing. Investigators learned that he had purchased the gun on the same day with the intention of killing Johnson. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered at another location.
Following his arrest, Jason Clark was charged with murder. In August 2021, he pleaded guilty to murder and tampering with physical evidence in Russell County Circuit Court. The Commonwealth of Kentucky recommended a 25-year sentence for the charges. Brandy Johnson was a mother of four children and was remembered by her employer and community as a kind, sweet, and loyal employee who deeply loved her family.
