In the late hours of December 2, 2019, the life of 20-year-old Cornelius Darnell Troy Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short in the parking lot of a Walmart Supercenter on Wilson Road in Radcliff, Kentucky. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:30 p.m. and discovered Troy in his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving a community in shock and a family to grapple with a sudden and violent loss.
The investigation into the death of the Vine Grove resident quickly led authorities to a suspect. The following day, on December 3, 21-year-old Kendall Lincoln of Elizabethtown was apprehended during a traffic stop. During a recorded interview with the Radcliff Police Department, Lincoln confessed to shooting Troy eight times with a. 45 caliber handgun. His confession also revealed a motive rooted in robbery, as he admitted to stealing a handgun and promethazine from Troy after the shooting.
Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross indicated that the killing was not a random act of violence, stating that Troy and Lincoln were acquainted with each other. Following his confession, Lincoln was charged with murder, first-degree robbery, and theft. He was subsequently lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center, held on a half-million-dollar bond. The tragic event left friends and family to remember Cornelius Troy Jr. as a cherished individual, whose life was taken far too soon.
