In a quiet Radcliff, Kentucky neighborhood, the evening of Thursday, August 17, 2023, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police arrived at the 1200 block of South Woodland Drive around 7:30 p.m., they found a man lying in the yard of a home, the victim of a fatal shooting. The man was identified as Kevin Maurice Estes, a 27-year-old male from Elizabethtown.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Estes was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
The neighborhood, situated between two community ballparks and behind an elementary school, was an unlikely backdrop for such violence. Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross confirmed that an officer was on the scene within two minutes of the call reporting shots fired and a person down. While details in the immediate aftermath were scarce, the police did state that it was not a drive-by shooting. At the time of his death, online records indicated that Estes was on parole for second-degree armed robbery and drug-related offenses stemming from a 2019 incident.
In the weeks following the shooting, the investigation into Kevin Maurice Estes's death continued, though no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests were announced in his murder. A separate and unrelated double homicide that occurred in Radcliff a month prior led to the arrest of two individuals. It was noted that one of these suspects had been residing in the same home on South Woodland Drive where Estes was killed. However, law enforcement did not comment on any potential connection between the two cases, and the investigation into who was responsible for Estes's death remains ongoing. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Radcliff Police Department.
