In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 22, 2023, a tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of a Waffle House in Radcliff, Kentucky, that cut short the life of 18-year-old Shane Anthony Estrada. The young man, a resident of Radcliff, was fatally shot in an incident that also claimed the life of 30-year-old Carlos Bello. The violent encounter took place just before 3:30 a.m.
at the restaurant located on South Dixie Boulevard.
Law enforcement responded to the scene to find both Estrada and Bello in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. The investigation into the double homicide quickly began, with the Radcliff Police Department heading the inquiry. Surveillance footage from the Waffle House became a critical piece of evidence. The video and audio recordings captured conversations between individuals allegedly planning to steal a firearm from one of the victims.
Within days of the shooting, authorities made their first arrest. Rodshad Akeem Bowser-Highsmith, a 33-year-old from Elizabethtown, was taken into custody and charged with complicity to murder and robbery. According to police reports, Bowser-Highsmith was identified from the surveillance footage and later admitted to his involvement in the incident. The investigation continued, leading to a second arrest in September 2023. Darien McGary, 25, was also charged with complicity to murder and complicity to robbery in connection with the deaths of Estrada and Bello. The investigation suggests that the fatal shots were fired during the attempt to take the firearm. Both Bowser-Highsmith and McGary were booked into the Hardin County Detention Center.
