In the fading light of a Friday afternoon in Lexington, Kentucky, the life of Larry Steven Rose Jr., a 44-year-old male, was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On March 6, 2020, police responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Smith Street, near the Transylvania University campus. Arriving at the scene around 3:15 p.m., they discovered Rose with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m.
The Fayette County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from the shooting.
The investigation into the daylight shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for 32-year-old Seantel Wilone Watson, who was identified as the primary individual sought in connection with Rose's death. The search for Watson concluded a week later, on March 13, 2020, when he turned himself in to the Lexington Police Department. He was subsequently taken into custody at the police headquarters and formally charged with murder.
Nearly two years after the fatal shooting, the legal proceedings against Watson took a significant turn. On February 14, 2022, he accepted a plea agreement with prosecutors. Under the terms of this deal, the original murder charge was amended to the lesser offense of manslaughter. Following this plea, on April 1, 2022, Seantel Watson was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the killing of Larry Steven Rose Jr. The judge granted him credit for the time he had already served in custody since his arrest.
