On a grim morning in Madisonville, Kentucky, the community was shaken by a violent incident that left two men dead and another seriously injured. On April 6, 2020, police were called to a residence at 778 Hodge Street for a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers discovered a tragic scene inside the home. Forty-year-old Joseph Wayne Gipson and his brother, 43-year-old Elvis Junior Gipson, were found deceased on the floor, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
A third man, 26-year-old Gunner Madison, was also found at the scene with a life-threatening gunshot wound and was immediately transported to Baptist Health Hospital for medical attention.
The investigation into the double homicide and serious assault quickly pointed to a suspect. Law enforcement identified 36-year-old Jeremy Wicks, a resident of Madisonville, as the individual responsible for the shootings. Wicks was apprehended and taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident. During their investigation at the residence on Hodge Street, detectives were able to recover several pieces of evidence that further implicated Wicks in the crimes.
Jeremy Wicks was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Joseph and Elvis Gipson. In addition to the murder charges, he faced one count of first-degree assault for the shooting of Gunner Madison. The legal proceedings against Wicks also included several drug-related charges. Ultimately, Jeremy Wicks pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. In a Hopkins County courtroom, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of the two brothers and the assault on the third victim.
