In the late afternoon of Sunday, February 19, 2023, Terrence Minor, a 27-year-old man, arrived at the Cross Creek Apartments in Madisonville, Kentucky. He was there to see the mother of his child, from whom he had recently separated. According to his father, he was bringing baby supplies. Shortly after entering the apartment to speak with her, he was shot once in the chest and died at the scene.
Responding to reports of shots fired around 3 p.m., Madisonville Police discovered Minor
deceased inside the residence. The investigation quickly led to two local men. Raleigh Lamar, 21 years old at the time, was identified as the shooter. During an interview with police, Lamar allegedly confessed to firing the weapon that resulted in Minor's death. Another man, 20-year-old Quortez Greenwood, was also implicated. Investigators determined that the firearm used in the shooting had been removed from the apartment before officers arrived. Greenwood reportedly admitted to hiding the weapon in an attempt to help his friend.
Following the investigation, Raleigh Lamar was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Quortez Greenwood was charged with tampering with physical evidence. However, the legal proceedings took a significant turn when Lamar's case went to trial. In July 2024, a jury deliberated for less than half an hour before finding Raleigh Lamar not guilty of murder, based on a self-defense argument. Following the acquittal on the murder charge, Lamar reached a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Terrence Edward Minor Jr., born on April 12, 1995, was a father who was remembered for his dedication to his children. A graduate of Hopkins County Central High School where he played basketball, he later pursued a career in music, releasing several albums and performing in various cities. He had also recently earned his CDL to start a career as a truck driver. His family, devastated by the loss, expressed their heartbreak over the trial's outcome, stating that the full story was not told and that gun violence needs to be addressed.
