On a spring day in Madisonville, Kentucky, what began as a welfare check at a home on Hodge Street soon unraveled into a scene of tragedy. On April 6, 2020, police officers discovered the bodies of 43-year-old male Elvis Junior Gipson and 40-year-old Joseph Wayne Gipson. Both men had been fatally shot.
Another man, 26-year-old Gunner Madison, was also found inside the residence, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Baptist Health Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The grim discovery launched an intensive investigation by the Madisonville Police Department as they worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
The investigation swiftly pointed to a suspect, 36-year-old Jeremy Wicks, also a resident of Madisonville. Wicks was arrested and faced a litany of serious charges, including two counts of murder for the deaths of Elvis and Joseph Gipson and one count of first-degree assault for the injuries sustained by Gunner Madison. In addition to these violent offenses, he was also charged with several drug-related offenses. Following his arrest, the judicial process moved forward, and Jeremy Wicks was ultimately sentenced to life in prison for the murders.
