On New Year's Day in 2017, the life of 25-year-old Tyler Matthew Balais, a White male, was cut short in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The day that should have been filled with resolutions and new beginnings turned into one of tragedy and loss. Balais, who was remembered as a best friend and a beloved son, worked on a Hot Shot Fire Crew and had a passion for dirt bikes and skating.
