On June 27, 2024, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Cleveland police and emergency medical services responded to reports of a shooting in the 6900 block of Morgan Avenue, near West 65th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old Kortez Efford deceased at the scene. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity.
Following the incident, authorities initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Efford's death.
As of now, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The Cleveland Division of Police continues to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Efford was held on July 12, 2024, at Mt. Sinai Friendship United in Cleveland, officiated by Dr. C. J. Matthews. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bedford Heights, Ohio. Family and friends gathered to honor and remember Kortez during these services.
