Ernest Cecil Holbert, a 59-year-old Caucasian male, was a dedicated officer with the Cleveland Division of Police. On January 2, 1972, while responding to a routine traffic accident on Buckeye Road and East Boulevard, Officer Holbert and his partner attempted to arrest an intoxicated driver. The suspect, who was seated in the patrol car, pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the officers.
