In a tragic incident in Frankfort, Kentucky, Samuel Keaton Sexton, a 20-year-old male, lost his life on a Sunday afternoon in April 2020. The fatal event occurred when a single gunshot wound struck Sexton in his apartment on Murray Street. The shot was fired from a neighboring apartment, penetrating the walls and striking him. Another individual was present in the apartment with Sexton at the time but was unharmed.
The individual in the adjacent apartment was identified as 20-year-old
Trevor Fridenmaker. According to police, Fridenmaker was handling a pistol when it accidentally discharged. Investigators believe the two men were acquainted and that there was no malicious intent behind the shooting. The Franklin County Coroner pronounced Sexton dead at the scene from the single gunshot wound.
Following the incident, Trevor Fridenmaker was arrested and faced multiple charges. A Franklin County grand jury indicted him on charges of second-degree manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, enhanced possession of marijuana, and enhanced possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities stated that Fridenmaker attempted to hide the firearm after it discharged, leading to the tampering charge. The additional charges stemmed from the discovery of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his apartment during the investigation.
