In the summer of 2020, the life of a young Louisville teenager was tragically cut short. Jalen William Anthony, a 16-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 13th in the Algonquin neighborhood. The incident unfolded in the 1200 block of West Hill Street, where officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 9:40 p.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Jalen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Shortly after finding Jalen, authorities were alerted to three other individuals who had also sustained gunshot wounds at the nearby intersection of Seventh Street and Algonquin Parkway. It was later determined that they too had been shot in the vicinity of the West Hill Street incident. All four victims were rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Jalen William Anthony was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner's office confirmed that his death was the result of multiple rifle wounds.
In the wake of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department's homicide unit launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jalen's death. However, the case has proven to be a challenging one for law enforcement. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The motive behind the violence also remains unclear.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon. Jalen was remembered by those who knew him as a funny and outgoing young man. His family held funeral services for him on July 22, 2020. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
