In a quiet Louisville, Kentucky neighborhood, the lives of 75-year-old Thomas Hatfield, Sr. and his wife, Jeanine Hatfield, came to a tragic end on January 10, 2021. The couple was found shot to death in their home in Pleasure Ridge Park, a startling event that shattered the peace of their community. Concerns for their welfare arose after their son, Thomas V.
Hatfield, Jr., then 49, reportedly appeared at a relative's house, making a chilling confession.
According to police reports, Hatfield, Jr. told a family member, 'I finally did it, I killed them.' He also allegedly mentioned attempting to take his own life. This alarming statement prompted family members to contact the authorities, who were dispatched to the Hatfield's residence on Margo Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased couple.
The investigation quickly centered on their son as the primary suspect. After leaving the first relative's home, Hatfield, Jr. drove to another family member's house where he intentionally crashed his vehicle into a parked car. Police located a handgun in his vehicle, which was consistent with the caliber of the shell casings found at the scene of the homicides. He was taken into custody and treated for what was described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Further investigation revealed a troubled history within the family. Court records indicated a past filled with domestic turmoil, including a prior domestic violence and abuse case against his mother. It was also reported that his parents had previously sought a protective order against him, although it was later dropped. Thomas Hatfield, Jr. was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He was held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $500,000 bond.
