In the evening hours of October 23, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky, tragedy struck the life of 55-year-old Anthony K. Petty. Responding to a report of a shooting, Louisville Metro Police arrived at the 4200 block of Broadmoor Court, a neighborhood situated off Newburg Road. There, they discovered Mr. Petty, a Black/African American male, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial discovery launched an investigation by the Louisville Metro
Police Department's Homicide Unit. As authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the shooting, the Jefferson County coroner's office officially identified Anthony Petty as the victim. News of his violent death rippled through the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden loss of a man described as someone who either came with a story or made one.
Despite the diligent efforts of law enforcement to understand the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting, the investigation concluded without any immediate arrests. Officials from the Louisville Metro Police Department later released a statement indicating that their inquiry into the shooting was complete. Based on their findings, they announced that no arrests were expected in connection with the death of Anthony Petty. The case was then expected to be reviewed by the Commonwealth Attorney's office. His family and friends were left to cherish his memory, holding a visitation and funeral service at Pleasant View Baptist Church, with his final resting place in Green Meadows Cemetery.
