In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 26-year-old Robert Jackson was violently cut short. On March 3, 2015, a home invasion turned into a harrowing kidnapping and ultimately, his murder. Around 2 a.m., multiple individuals forced their way into Jackson's residence, brandishing guns and demanding personal property.
In a terrifying escalation of events, Jackson was then abducted from his home.
The assailants drove him to the 1000 block of Liberty Court in the Russell neighborhood, where the ordeal reached its tragic conclusion. It was there that Robert Jackson was shot multiple times. He was rushed to University Hospital but was pronounced dead from his injuries. Neighbors in the Beecher Terrace apartment complex area reported hearing as many as 25 gunshots, and police later marked at least that many evidence markers at the scene.
The investigation into Jackson's murder led to the arrest of one suspect, Anton Anderson. He was subsequently charged with kidnapping, robbery, and murder. Authorities identified Anderson through a combination of witness interviews and surveillance footage. During legal proceedings, it was revealed that Anderson had a prior criminal history which included arrests for kidnapping and robbery. Despite a request from the commonwealth to hold him without bail, a judge set his bond at $250,000. At the time of Anderson's arrest, police indicated that the investigation was ongoing as they continued to seek other individuals involved in the crime.
In the wake of his death, Jackson's mother, Sherrell Jackson, spoke of her son's troubled life and her feeling that the juvenile justice system had failed him. She expressed that he had struggled to find steady employment and had been in and out of trouble from a young age. She had a premonition that something was wrong on the morning of his death and had been searching for him before she was even officially notified. While acknowledging his challenges, she lamented that his life should not have ended in such a violent manner.
