In the early morning hours of January 31, 2021, a grim discovery was made on the Gene Snyder Freeway in Louisville, Kentucky. Firefighters who were dispatched to extinguish a vehicle fire on the side of the interstate near Beulah Church Road found the body of 25-year-old Michael Henley, a Black male, inside the trunk of the burning car. The vehicle, a black Dodge Charger that belonged to Henley, was fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
