Kenya Renee Cunningham Higgins, a 31-year-old Black female, was found deceased in her Lexington, Kentucky, home on Furlong View Court on February 11, 2021. The Fayette County Coroner's Office pronounced her dead at the scene at 9:50 a.m., determining the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and classifying it as a homicide. The incident was identified by authorities as a domestic violence situation.
When police arrived at the residence shortly after 9 a.m., they discovered three
other individuals who had sustained injuries during the altercation. An adult male and two children were transported to a local hospital for treatment of what were described as life-threatening injuries. At the time of the initial reports, law enforcement had not filed any charges or publicly identified any suspects in connection with the fatal shooting as the investigation was ongoing.
Kenya was a homemaker and a member of the Total Grace Baptist Church in Lexington. A graduate of Paris High School, she was married to Jermaine Andre Higgins and was a mother to three children.
