On September 8, 2024, 28-year-old Esmeralda Lizete Rodriguez Perez was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Lexington, Kentucky. The incident occurred on Betsy Lane, outside a child's birthday party that Esmeralda was attending. According to her family, Esmeralda was not the intended target of the shooting, which also left another man injured but surviving.
