In the early evening of a Wednesday in Lexington, Kentucky, a burst of violence shattered the winter quiet. On February 17, 2021, 17-year-old Markel Allen was found by police officers in the vicinity of 760 Florence Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound. The young man was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but tragically, his life could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 9:43 p.m., marking the city's sixth homicide of the year.
