In the late afternoon of a Tuesday in Lexington, Kentucky, the life of 30-year-old Deonte Logan was cut tragically short. On September 3, 2024, police responded to a call of shots fired in the 2000 block of Cambridge Drive. Upon their arrival at 5:12 p.m., they discovered a male victim, later identified as Deonte Logan, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Logan to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at 5:42 p.m. that evening. The Fayette County Coroner's Office confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and scheduled an autopsy to be performed at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort. His death marked the 11th homicide in Lexington for the year 2024.
The investigation into the shooting led the Lexington Police Department to a suspect. A few days later, on a Sunday, 28-year-old Xavier Walker was arrested and taken into custody at the Fayette County Detention Center. He has since been charged with murder, first-degree robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Walker is being held on a $750,000 bond. Court records indicate that Walker has previous felony convictions, including for robbery.
