In the late hours of a Saturday evening in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the life of 29-year-old Irving Mortesé White was cut short by a fatal shooting on February 20, 2021. A male with roots in Washington, D.C., White had grown up in Kentucky, attending North Hardin High School and becoming a father. His interests as a young man included soccer, playing the trumpet in the school band, and participating in JROTC.
As an adult, he was known for his love of working on cars and electronics.
On the night of his death, just before 10:30 p.m., White drove to a residence in the 500 block of Village Drive. According to the Elizabethtown Police Department, an altercation occurred between White and two other adults inside the home. Following the dispute, White went out to his vehicle. It was then that the situation escalated dramatically.
Authorities reported that White allegedly began firing shots into the home from his car. In response, one of the individuals inside the house returned fire, striking White. Despite being wounded, he attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle. However, he was only able to drive a short distance before succumbing to his injuries. At the time of the initial reports, an autopsy was pending as the investigation into the shooting remained ongoing.
