Upon their arrival, officers discovered the body of 40-year-old Shedrick Tyrone Byrd, a Black male who had suffered a single gunshot wound. What initially appeared to be a solitary discovery by his girlfriend, 32-year-old Loni K.
Drumm, soon unraveled into a story of domestic violence and a desperate attempt to conceal the truth.
Initially, Drumm told investigators that she had left the residence to purchase cigarettes and returned to find Byrd deceased. However, as the investigation progressed, the inconsistencies in her account became apparent to law enforcement. Under further questioning, Drumm’s story began to crumble. She eventually admitted to having a heated altercation with Byrd. During the confrontation, she confessed to striking him with a handgun.
As Shedrick Byrd attempted to flee the volatile situation, Drumm admitted to shooting him. In a frantic effort to cover her tracks, she gave the firearm to a neighbor with instructions to dispose of it. However, the neighbor, instead of complying, made the crucial decision to turn the weapon over to the police, providing them with the key piece of evidence in the unfolding homicide case.
With her confession and the recovery of the murder weapon, Loni K. Drumm was arrested and faced charges of murder in the context of domestic violence and tampering with physical evidence. She was subsequently booked into the Hardin County Detention Center, with her bond set at $500,000.
