In the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a 26-year-old Black / African American man named Javonte Richie, affectionately known as 'Vonte,' was fatally shot on the evening of March 23, 2021. Just two weeks after his birthday, Richie was walking home from a store when the incident occurred at the intersection of 44th and Market Streets. At the time of the attack, he was on the phone with a friend who overheard him telling his assailants they had the wrong person before the sound of
gunshots.
Richie, an employee at Ford and an avid gamer, was described by his family as a beloved individual with no known enemies. He attended The Academy at Shawnee High School and was remembered for enjoying simple pleasures like gaming and snacks. His loved ones are left grappling with the senseless violence that cut his life short.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has been investigating the shooting, which marked the city's 45th criminal homicide of that year. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with Javonte Richie's death, and the case has grown cold. His family has publicly expressed their grief and fear that his case will remain unsolved. They have made emotional pleas to the public, urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and contact the authorities to help bring justice for Javonte.
