In the early morning hours of Halloween 2021, a night that should have been filled with festive celebration, turned into a scene of tragedy in Louisville, Kentucky. Latroy Hornbeak, a 22-year-old Black male, was working as a security guard for a private party at the Unity Palace Event Center on Shepherdsville Road. Alongside him was his cousin, Darius Anderson, who was also 22.
The two were inseparable in life and, tragically, would be united in death.
A fight that began inside the event center escalated and spilled out into the parking lot. In the ensuing chaos, both Hornbeak and Anderson were shot while attempting to de-escalate the situation. They were rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, but their injuries proved to be fatal. Family members remember the cousins as hardworking young men who were simply doing their job when their lives were cut short by senseless violence. They were not involved in the initial altercation.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has been investigating the double homicide, but as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The families of Latroy Hornbeak and Darius Anderson have been left to grieve the profound loss of their only children, pleading with the community for anyone with information to come forward. Their hope is that justice will one day be served for the two young men who lost their lives while trying to maintain peace.
