In the early morning hours of August 22, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace outside a Waffle House on South Broadway in Lexington, Kentucky, forever changing the lives of many. When the chaos subsided, 22-year-old Jaimesha Beattie, a young woman with her whole life ahead of her, lay dead at the scene, a victim of the senseless violence. Two other individuals, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were also wounded in the shooting but sustained injuries that were not considered
life-threatening.
The investigation into the tragic death of Jaimesha, a female with a loving family and a young son, quickly led law enforcement to a suspect. A 19-year-old woman, Naomi Romero, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. While not accused of pulling the trigger, Romero faces serious charges of facilitation to murder, falsely reporting an incident, and tampering with physical evidence. Investigators believe that she played a crucial role in the crime by providing the vehicle used by the perpetrators.
According to police reports, electronic evidence placed Romero in the vehicle at the time of the homicide and with the suspects at other locations. In an alleged attempt to cover her tracks, Romero is said to have driven the car to neighboring Woodford County, where it was intentionally set on fire to destroy any potential evidence. She then reported the vehicle as stolen, a claim that authorities believe to be false. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to seek others who may have been involved in the shooting that tragically cut short the life of Jaimesha Beattie.
