On a Sunday afternoon in Covington, Kentucky, the life of 19-year-old Elijah Justus Lovitt was cut short by gunfire. The Black / African American teenager from Elsmere was fatally shot on February 13, 2022. Covington Police were called to the 2600 block of Benton Road in the City Heights neighborhood around 3:09 PM following reports of a shooting.
Lovitt was discovered inside a vehicle at the intersection of West 19th and Franklin Streets, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The Covington Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with Lovitt's death. The case remains an open and active investigation as authorities continue to seek information from the public that could lead to a resolution.
