In the early morning hours of October 22, 2023, the life of 35-year-old Peter Thomas Larkin, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in the Latonia neighborhood of Covington, Kentucky. Responding to a call of a shooting just after 1:00 a.m., Covington police officers arrived at a residence in the 300 block of East 39th Street to a grim scene. Inside the home, they discovered Larkin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical attention, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 5, 1988, Peter Larkin was a resident of Latonia at the time of his death. Detectives from the Covington Police Department's Criminal Investigation Bureau and its Evidence Collection Unit were dispatched to the residence to begin the painstaking work of piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The investigation into his death was quickly classified as a homicide.
In the days following the incident, authorities sought to reassure the community, stating they believed the shooting was an isolated event and that there was no ongoing threat to the public. As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made in connection with Peter Larkin's death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Covington Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact Detective Jim Lindeman or Cincinnati/NKY Crime Stoppers to help bring closure to a case that ended a young man's life far too soon.
