In the early morning hours of June 27, 2022, the sound of gunshots echoed through the 2400 block of West Madison Street in Louisville, Kentucky. Responding to reports of the gunfire around 4:30 a.m., Louisville Metro Police Department officers arrived at a grim scene near 24th Street. Inside a vehicle, they discovered the bodies of 42-year-old Dashawn Powell, a Black male, and 41-year-old Ebony Shepard.
