In the early morning hours of January 16, 2018, in the Hikes Point neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a domestic dispute culminated in the tragic death of 22-year-old Cole George Passafiume. A male, Cole was a graduate of Ascension Catholic School and Eastern High School and was employed as a customer quality inspector at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant. He was remembered by friends and family as a kind, humble, and respectful young man.

Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a call about a shooting on Laurelwood Avenue at approximately 2:50 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Cole Passafiume with a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

The investigation into the shooting quickly identified the suspect as Cole's father, Jerry Passafiume Jr. The incident was classified as a domestic homicide, stemming from a dispute between the father and son. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officials stated that they were not searching for any other suspects. No arrest was made at the scene, and the case was handed over to the Commonwealth's Attorney's office for a review to determine whether charges would be filed against Jerry Passafiume Jr. Despite the initial investigation and referral to the prosecutor's office, publicly available information does not indicate that any charges were ultimately filed.
