On a Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, a sequence of violent events led to the death of 26-year-old Edward Lamont Smith. On September 10, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a shooting report in the Russell neighborhood. They discovered Smith, who had been fatally shot, in the 400 block of 26th Street, near Cedar Street.
