In the early afternoon of March 2, 2024, a shooting in the Bon Air neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, set in motion a chain of events that would end in tragedy. Aubrey Spry Jr., a 57-year-old male, was found lying on the ground near the intersection of Del Rio Place and Commander Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The call to the Louisville Metro Police Department came in around 1:30 p.m., and officers who responded to the scene immediately began rendering aid to the injured
man. Spry was then rushed to the hospital with what were described as severe internal injuries.
Despite initial hopes for his survival, Aubrey Spry Jr. succumbed to his injuries two days later, on March 4, 2024. His death turned the assault case into a homicide investigation, led by the LMPD's Homicide Unit. In the immediate aftermath, the police had no suspects and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. The investigation continued for two months, seeking to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
A significant breakthrough in the case came on May 14, 2024, when Louisville police arrested 44-year-old Lacardo Wilson in connection with Spry's death. Wilson was taken into custody without incident and has since been charged with murder. Investigators revealed that before he died, Aubrey Spry Jr. was able to contact his girlfriend and identify Wilson as the person who had shot him. Wilson is currently being held at Metro Corrections while he awaits arraignment.
