In a tragic turn of events the day before Thanksgiving, 47-year-old Talina 'Tina' Henderson, a Black female, was shot and killed in her Lexington, Kentucky, home on November 23, 2022. The incident, which unfolded in the 2800 block of Bay Colony Lane, marked another grim statistic in the city's rising count of domestic violence-related homicides.
On that Wednesday afternoon, police responded to a chilling 911 call from a man who confessed to having just killed his wife.
When officers arrived at the residence, located near Masterson Station Park, they found Talina Henderson unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual was reportedly present in the home during the shooting and was cooperating with the police investigation.
The man who made the emergency call was identified as Talina's 59-year-old husband, Stephon Henderson. He surrendered to the authorities without incident and was taken into custody. The subsequent investigation revealed a history of domestic issues. Court records showed that just three days before her murder, Talina had filed a petition for an emergency protective order against her husband, citing threats he had made against her if she proceeded with a divorce. Tragically, the petition was denied by a judge who determined there was 'no imminent threat' at the time.
Stephon Henderson was charged with murder violation of an emergency protection order, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His criminal history included a prior conviction for spouse abuse. In a development that brought a close to the legal proceedings less than a year after the murder, Stephon Henderson pleaded guilty to the charges against him in March 2023. He was subsequently sentenced to 26 years in prison.
