In a tragic turn of events on a Thursday evening in Lexington, Kentucky, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal incident, leaving a family shattered. On June 7, 2018, police were dispatched to a residence on Kenwood Drive around 8:30 p.m. following reports of a domestic violence incident involving a weapon. Inside the home, they discovered a husband and wife, both with gunshot wounds.
The Fayette County coroner's office later identified the deceased as 44-year-old Patrice Smith and
her 55-year-old husband, William Smith. The investigation concluded that William Smith fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Patrice Smith was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m.
An obituary described Patrice Marie Smith as a 39-year-old native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a mother to five daughters and a grandmother to five grandchildren. The couple's teenage daughter was reportedly in the home at the time of the shooting but was not physically harmed.
