On a summer night in 2013, the life of 20-year-old Ethan M. Honer, a White male from Dent, Minnesota, was tragically cut short. The events of July 31st unfolded at a residence east of New York Mills, in what authorities would later describe as a murder-suicide fueled by jealousy. Honer had accompanied a woman to the home of her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Jacob Geiser. The purpose of their visit was to retrieve the woman's dog.
Geiser was not expected to be at the residence. When he discovered his ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend, Honer, the situation escalated with fatal consequences. In a sudden act of violence, Geiser fatally shot Honer. The woman, who witnessed the horrific event, immediately called 911 to report the gunfire.
When sheriff's deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived at the home on Highway 56, they found Ethan Honer deceased at the scene. Jacob Geiser was still alive but had turned the gun on himself. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Wadena and later flown to St. Cloud Hospital, where he succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries. The investigation concluded that Geiser was the sole suspect in Honer's death.
