Miguel Yobani Garcia Silvestre, 25, male, was killed in the pre-dawn hours of September 12, 2015, inside a house on the 1200 block of 22nd Avenue North in Minneapolis’ Jordan neighborhood. Police were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire; inside they found multiple victims, and Garcia Silvestre was pronounced dead at the scene. A short distance away, officers also located another wounded man who had fled after the shooting.
Three survivors were taken to North Memorial Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later identified Garcia Silvestre and determined he died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen; the death was ruled a homicide. Reporters noted that the house where he was found lay in a pocket of North Minneapolis that had seen a spate of violence that month.
Detectives initially described the incident as an apparent home invasion and said the shooting appeared drug-related, a detail that helped explain why several televisions were reported stacked by a doorway as if someone had been trying to carry property out. The episode was also recorded as part of a multi-victim shooting that left one person dead and three injured.
Authorities did not announce any arrests in connection with Garcia Silvestre’s killing in the immediate aftermath, and contemporary coverage named no suspects. The case remained under investigation, and police urged anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers.
