Richard Ambers, aged 31, was found dead inside a car in Minneapolis, MN, on October 29, 2016. He had suffered two gunshot wounds to the head. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m., and the vehicle was parked at 48th and Bryant Avenues North.
Four individuals were charged in connection with Ambers' death. Brandy L. Jaques, aged 40, Derrick Z. Smith, aged 26, and Tyrel L. Patterson, aged 27, all from Minneapolis, along with Ayan A.
Wahab, aged 22, from Blaine, were implicated in the crime. According to court documents, Wahab was at a Super America gas station with Smith and Patterson on the night of the murder. Ambers was also present, selling marijuana. Smith instructed Wahab to befriend Ambers to gather information about his money and drugs, with the intention of robbing him.
After leaving the gas station, Ambers and Wahab drove Jaques home and parked the car. Wahab went inside with Smith and Jaques to discuss the robbery plan. Wahab then returned to the car with Ambers, and shortly after, Patterson approached the vehicle and knocked on the window. Wahab fled the scene and heard three gunshots.
Jaques, Smith, and Patterson were also charged with the November 23, 2016, murder of James Herron, aged 42, in Prior Lake. This incident involved a drug deal and robbery that went wrong. All three suspects were arrested and held in the Hennepin County Jail on $1 million bail. The case remains under investigation.
