In the late hours of a Thursday night in South Minneapolis, the life of a young Black man, 23-year-old Trejon Sands, was tragically cut short. On May 30, 2019, Sands was seated in a parked car in the 2900 block of South Grand Avenue, near the Midtown Greenway, when he was ambushed. Witnesses reported that a gunman approached the vehicle just before 11 p.m. and opened fire, striking Sands multiple times in the chest.
