On the evening of August 17, 2020, a domestic situation in a Blaine, Minnesota home tragically cut short the life of 47-year-old Yuliya Khort. Police were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of 120th Avenue Northeast at approximately 8:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they were informed that a man inside the home was armed. The situation quickly escalated as officers on the scene heard multiple gunshots coming from within the house.
Before the gunfire, law enforcement was able to
safely remove two children from the home. After hearing the shots, officers from several local police departments and the State Patrol established a perimeter and attempted to make contact with the individuals inside. These attempts were unsuccessful.
Upon entering the residence, authorities discovered the bodies of Yuliya Khort and 44-year-old Maksim Aleksandrovich Krechetov. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office later stated that early indications suggested Krechetov shot and killed Khort before taking his own life. Investigators determined it to be a murder-suicide and announced that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the incident.
