In the early hours of a Friday morning in July 2021, a dispute near Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis escalated to a fatal conclusion. Tyrone Washington, a 53-year-old Black man from Cass Lake, was involved in an argument near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and Lake Street. The confrontation ended tragically when Washington was shot.
On July 23, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Washington arrived at Hennepin Healthcare with a critical gunshot wound.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and officially ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
The Minneapolis Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. As of now, publicly available information has not identified any suspects, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the death of Tyrone Washington. The case remains an open investigation.
