Michael Dashawn Redding, a 21-year-old resident of South St. Paul, was tragically killed on August 2, 2021. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Pine Tree Park apartment complex, located on the 800 block of North Hazel Street in St. Paul's east side. Multiple reports of gunshots prompted police to respond to the scene, where they found Redding suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing two males engaged in a gunfight in the parking lot. One of the suspects was described as a younger Black male, approximately 20 years old, thin, and wearing a black hoodie with white lettering and dark blue skinny jeans. This individual was seen fleeing east between the apartments and then heading south. Despite a thorough search involving K9 units and a State Patrol helicopter, the suspect was not located.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The St. Paul police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. The incident marks the 16th homicide in St. Paul for the year 2021.
