On the night of August 23, 2021, 48-year-old Demond A. Bingham was fatally shot in St. Paul's North End neighborhood. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the 800 block of Albemarle Street, near Lewis Park. Responding officers found Bingham suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts to aid him, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene shortly thereafter. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the victim as Demond A.

The investigation revealed that Bingham had been involved in a confrontation with Larry Rucker, 42, who was the ex-boyfriend of Bingham's girlfriend. According to the criminal complaint, Rucker had become jealous of Bingham and the two men had a heated exchange outside an apartment building near Lewis Park. Bingham's cousin and nephew provided statements to the police, indicating that Bingham had expressed concerns about his safety and had been having ongoing issues with Rucker. Surveillance footage from the apartment building showed Rucker and Bingham interacting shortly before the shooting.
Larry Rucker was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm. In April 2023, a jury convicted Rucker of these charges, and he was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison by Ramsey County District Judge Kellie Charles. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of jealousy and unresolved conflicts, leading to the untimely death of Demond A. Bingham.
